Private Conrad Arthur Ford embarked on the 25 October 1916 from Sydney on the HMAT Ascanius A11, and was serving in the 18 Infantry Battalion – 14 to 17 Reinforcements. Conrad was 21 years old and worked as a labourer. He was also married to Mrs. Annie Ford and they both lived in Ritchie Street, Granville, NSW.
Private Ford disembarked at Devonport, Plymouth in December 1916, and on the 25 January 1917 proceeded to France. In March of that year he marched in Etaples, Northern France. On the 3 May he received a gunshot wound to the thigh in the field in France and was taken to the No 3 Australian Casualty Clearing Station.
Conrad died of his wounds on the 4 May 1917 and was buried at Grevillers British Military Cemetery in France at Plot 3 Row B.
